「お茶を飲もう もっとおいしく! 」
「夏も近付く八十八夜…」と唄われる茶摘みの歌。
八十八夜は「立春」から数えて88日目に当たる日で今年は5月2日でした。
日本では、春から夏に変わる節目になります。
その頃の新芽を摘み取って作られるお茶を「一番茶」「新茶」と言い、
旬の初物、不老長寿の縁起物として古来より大切にされてきました。
この季節、おいしいお茶をもっとおいしくいただくために、お茶専門店
ルピシアの清水さんにお話しを伺いました。
今年の新茶は、天候に恵まれ大変良い作柄となっているそうです。

[Get the Most from Your JAPANESE TEA]
The 88th night – summer is coming”. So goes a traditional Japanese tea picking song.
The night in question marks 88 days since Risshun – the first day of spring in the old Japanese lunisolar calendar. This year, it fell on May 2. In Japan, this date marks the transition from spring to summer, and the tea made from the new buds picked at this time is called Ichibancha (First tea) or Shincha (New tea). Since ancient times, this first flush (harvest) tea has been treasured as way to help keep you young and live a long life, and this month, it arrives in Melbourne. This month, to help you get the best from this delicious tea, we enlisted Shimizu-san from tea specialist Lupicia and asked for his advice. Thanks to great weather, this year's crop is apparently fantastic, so we look forward to it!
