Since opening in 1981, Kenzan has been a key driver of Melbourne’s Japanese restaurant scene.
The name itself comes from famed Edo period potter, Ogata Kenzan, who created many beautiful works over his life.
More than anything else, Kenzan is famous for its sushi. Every ingredient is carefully selected, and prepared to maximise its individual qualities. There are plenty of varieties on offer, too. The balance between the fresh toppings and the small quantity of rice is just sublime, and watching the chef prepare it in front of you if you eat at the counter is a special experience. It’s like being in Japan.
The rest of the menu is full of traditional gems, such as Horenso Gomaae, Tempura Moriawase, Ebi Shumai and Misozuke Yaki, each a dish you can have time and again without ever getting sick of it. There’s also the option of Japanese marbled beef for your Shabu Shabu and Sukiyaki, and a specials menu that changes with the seasons.

With excellent table service that delivers dishes at just the right time, it’s a great place to relax, too. For important business meetings, birthday parties and so on, there’s also a private room you can hire.
Go there once, and you’ll understand why it’s won numerous awards, and why we recommend it to our friends who want to try authentic Japanese cuisine.

1981年のオープン以来、メルボルンの日本食文化を牽引してきたお店です。
Kenzanという名前は、暮らしを豊かに彩る作品を多く生み出した、江戸時代の有名な陶芸家、尾形乾山にあやかりたいと付けられました。
なんといってもお勧めは寿司。厳選した素材の良さを最大限に引き出し、種類も豊富です。新鮮な素材と小さめのシャリのバランスは絶妙です。寿司カウンターで、職人が寿司を作るのを見ながら食べると、日本にいるような格別な体験ができます。

また、メニューには、正統派という言葉がぴったりの品々が並んでいます。Entréeのほうれん草ごま和え、天ぷら盛り合わせ、海老しゅうまい、白身魚の味噌漬け焼きなどは、いつ行っても頼んでしまう定番メニュー。Japanese marbled beefを使ったしゃぶしゃぶ、すき焼きもあります。シーズンごとに変わるスペシャルメニューも楽しみです。
テーブル席でのサービスの良さも見事で、タイミングよくサーブされ、居心地よくゆっくりできます。予約のできるプライベートルームもあり、ビジネスやお誕生日のグループなどで利用するのに最適です。
