其の1 Footy、AFLって何さ～？
まいど～。AFL開幕しましたね。Footy、AFLって何？と、ハテナマークでいっぱいのアナタのために説明しよう！（タイムボカン風）Footyとは、Australian Rules Footballの愛称で、1858年に、トム･ウィルスさんが、クリケットがオフシーズンの冬に、クリケット選手のトレーニングのためにええんちゃう～とメルボルンで誕生して以来、ビクトリア州、南オーストラリア州を中心に、アボリジニの皆さんにも熱狂的ファンが多い球技。
AFLとは、Australian Football Leagueの略で、3月後半から8月まで16チームがぶつかる全22戦と、9月の決勝トーナメント、そしてグランドファイナル（優勝決定戦）で王者が決まる、プロリーグのこと。その間、お茶の間、パブ、球場で、Footy好きが固唾を呑んで試合を見守る、熱い風景が見られます～。
Footyで育ったオージーには、大事な生活の一部なんやね。ほな、ルール説明はまた次回ね～！

Yes, even in football, love is blind.
The big moment was at a park near my house. There were 3 of us, we just couldn't wait any longer... yes, it was time for a kick of the footy!!
Only February, but there we were, 3 grown men, kicking a football and running around like school kids for the first time in months, sharing everything we had heard or read or seen about the new season of AFL.
So many things to discuss, who had recruited best, which players were too old, who to pick in our fantasy teams, the list was endless.
Not suprisingly, we had our own teams in the top 4. Adrian, the Hawthorn fan, was naturally at ease. The Hawks were the premiers, and this year he explained, the Hawks would be premiers again. All arguments to the contrary were met with one word....."Buddy!", referring to Hawthorn's star forward Lance Franklin.
Being a Carlton fan, I finally had something to smile about. Last season the Blues missed the finals, but this season, with everyone a year older and a year healthier, any Carlton fan will tell you the sky is the limit.
I immediately declared Carlton a top 4 prospect, much to the amusement of my friends, however, all arguments to the contrary were met with one word...."Juddy", referring to Carlton’s star recruit from West Coast, Chris Judd.
Mark loves Collingwood, and was eager to tell us the Magpies were also premiership contenders. However, when he compared Collingwood star Travis Cloke to Franklin and Judd, there was uncontrollable laughter for 5 minutes, and upon reflection, eventually Mark could see the funny side too.
Yes, even in football, love is blind. About the only thing we could all agree on, was we were glad we weren't Richmond supporters.
